deja vu conclusion

December 10, 2008 by mza1932

The word déjà vu is a French term that means already seen. Déjà vu is the experience of feeling sure that one has witnessed or experienced a new situation previously. Dr. Alan Brown believes it is caused by biological dysfunction, implicit familiarity and divided perception. Carolyn Williams believes that maybe she was reincarnated and Jessie believes we all have the ability to foresee things in our minds if we would only use more of it. And the movie Déjà vu shows us we can relive a moment in life if we travel through time. I always thought I was different because of my experiences with déjà vu but as I went on my quest to answer the big question: what is déjà vu and what does it mean? I found out déjà vu is more common than I thought it was. People have many different theories as to what déjà vu is and what causes it. And the many answers range from reincarnation to neurological. The most likely thing I’ve found is that déjà vu occurs for a variety of reasons, perhaps different in each person, or in different situations. Through this I-Search Project I have really been enlighten on my understanding of déjà vu and I will continue my journey to learn more.

I read a book, The Déjà vu Experience by Dr. Alan S. Brown.

This was a good book and it really helped me get an understanding of why people experience déjà vu from a scientific perspective. This book has also helped me with my topic because it helped me realize there are many different reasons why people experience déjà vu and it is not as uncommon as I thought it would be.

As I watched the movie déjà vu I felt the title was not the best title for this movie. Déjà vu is more about time travel than living a moment over again or recalling a memory. Déjà vu is a very exciting movie and Denzel’s performance was at his best. The movie was not very helpful in getting myself more of an understanding of what déjà vu is and why do we have it, but the movie did help me to realize that if we could change the past would we?, knowing we could possibly erase our future.

I interviewed Jessie M. She is a white female who is 21 years of age.

I think this interview with Jessie M. really helped me with my quest for knowledge about déjà vu because I don’t know that many people who have had the same experiences I have had. As I listened to Jessie M. experiences with déjà vu I am reminded of myself and the experiences that I have had with déjà vu. This interviewed helped me to understand that déjà vu is seen as a special gift we have inside our minds if only we would use it.

I interviewed Carolyn W. She is a 53 year old black female.

This interview with Carolyn W. was really helps me to see déjà vu from another persons prospective. I had always looked at déjà vu as if I was the only person to have these feelings but now I know I am not the only one. This interview helped me with my topic because I haven’t heard anyone else experience with déjà vu and when I listened to Carolyn W. I compared her experiences to mine and found them to be quite familiar; which leads me to believe déjà vu is not as uncommon as I thought it was.

What Is Deja Vu?

December 10, 2008 by mza1932

Have you ever walked into a building and felt you’ve been there before or had a conversation and could almost finish the other persons sentence. Well this has been apart of my everyday  life for as long as I can remember. Since I was a little girl I heard stories of my mother being born with a vale over her face and when she was a little girl she could see spirits. I dont know if this has anything to do with me but I’ve always wonder because since I was about five I’ve felt like I’ve already lived my life before. So my question is what is deja vu and does it mean Im living my life over or is it gods way of showing me I’m living my life the way it was intended.

I have been given so many different reasons why I feel this way but none have satisfied my curiosity.

  1. I believe that people are hypocritical.
  2. I believe that society is judmental.
  3. I believe that government is another word for ruler.
  4. I believe that justice is for the innocent.
  5. I believe that knowledge is power.
  6. I believe that science is going to change the world.
  7. I believe that reality is not always what it seems.
  8. I believe that life is an endless journey.
  9. I believe that happiness is what we make it.
  10. I believe that goodness is in everyone.
  11. I believe that death is a better place for some people.
  12. I believe that God is always with us.

I believe that happiness is what we make it. I formed this belief in happiness because of the many struggles and changes i’ve been through in my 32 year of life. When I was 17 years old I live in a shelter with my two kids. I was happy because I felt like atleast we weren’t living out doors. From that point on my life was different . I realized happiness was not  having a million dollars or having everything you wanted but happiness was being with the people you loved and knowing they were safe.

As for a person who disagrees with me and thinks that having money is happiness, maybe this is because they never went without anything they needed and always got everything they wanted. Being a person who grow-up poor, I learned to appreciate things alot more and that’s why I feel happiness is what you make it!
